Day 10: Departing for Bangkok...

My bus to Bangkok leaves in a matter of hours. For some reason, purchasing the bus from Vientiane to Bangkok, at $27, is significantly cheaper than purchasing the opposite route from Bangkok ($41). Maybe that's because there's no two-hour entry visa application and issuance procedure at the border.

About Thailand...

I was mistaken in a past post: contrary to my information, the cabinet has not resigned and snap elections have not been called yet. In any case, even if they are called, it's unlikely that they would diffuse the protests, because the incumbent Prime-Minister would probably win again. In fact, the protests have intensified, and while a successful strike has failed to materialize, the trains are still not running, some airports are still blocked, and a state of emergency has been declared after 1 protestor was killed and many dozens were wounded. However, police has generally shown restraint and the protests have been, more or less, largely non-violent. But if this continues further, I fail to see how tourists will believe that Thailand is the "Land of Smiles," as the government commercializes the country. But ouf of this, as well as protests in South Korea, there is one positive fact for me after all: the U.S. dollar has been rising quickly in both countries due to the instability plaguing both of them.
